THE METAPHYSICS OF PUNJABI SUFI POETRY
Dr. Shahzad Qaiser & Amna Hayat Khan


Dr Shahzad Qaiser, Federal Secretary (Retd), did his Masters in Philosophy from the University of the Punjab with Arnold Gold Medal, and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan with Allah Nawaz Khan Tareen Gold Medal. He is the recipient of Pitras Bokhari Award in English Literature; Waris Shah Award in Punjabi Literature; Khawaja Ghulam Farid Gold Medal, Islamia University, Bahawalpur; President’s Award for Pride of Performance (Literature) and Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Literature). He has authored books on the subjects of Metaphysics, Religion and Philosophy in English including ‘Understanding Diwan-i-Farid’ and ‘The Metaphysical and Cultural Perspectives of Khawaja Ghulam Farid’s Poetry and Iqbal’. He is a Punjabi poet using the genre of ‘Kafi’. He has also written Urdu Inshaiya (Light Essays).


Amna Hayat Khan has done her Masters in English from Kinnaird College, Lahore and Masters in Women Studies from the University of York, U.K. She is deeply steeped in the tradition of Punjabi Sufi poetry. She has rendered ‘Abiyat’ of Hazrat Sultan Bahu into English Prose. She has interpreted the Quatrains of the great Sufi Master in the Light of Tradition.
